Bourne End Academy – Motivational Careers Assemblies | January 2016
Careers Coordinator Anna Bowman has been delighted with the response she had to her post requesting support with motivational assemblies for students.
The school wanted to inspire and educate their students about the breadth and depth of careers available thus ensuring they see the relevance of their studies. Mrs Bowman with the support of the Bucks Skills Hub has now arranged for six assemblies to take place with speakers from all types of industry including solicitors, accountants, sales and health care professionals.
Mrs Bowman felt the students had engaged really well with the guest speakers and valued the opportunity to find out about various careers. One session saw a 50% increase in students considering a career in the sector. Mrs Bowman commented ‘It’s great for students to be exposed to real people doing this type of work. They clearly enjoy hearing from outside people and listened really well to our guest speakers. As a school we are really excited to be involved in this project.’
A year 13 student commented that they had found the session invaluable and where now thinking about what work experience would enhance their applications to university or an apprenticeship.
