The construction industry is a key growth sector in Buckinghamshire – and the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) will be helping students find out what a career in construction can offer with two major events for schools to sign up to in 2019.

Bucks Skills Hub is working with Sarah Peace, CITB’s new Advisor for Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire. Email Sarah to arrange a classroom visit from a construction employer to get the most of either of the events below.

  • CITB WOW Day: careers special livestream to all schools – Wednesday, February 27

Make sure you schedule this special broadcast in form time or PSHE and dispel the many stereotypes and preconceptions that surround working in construction.

Did you know that one in ten people in the UK have careers in this sector – from all walks of life and with a huge range of skills? ‘Building Your Future’ investigates the wonder of the built environment and shines a spotlight on the unexpected variety of employment opportunities.

With mini documentaries and reporter-led packages, combined with an interactive Q&A, it will give students a fascinating insight into the world of work.

Encounters with a range of employers and workplaces will let them meet young people like them who have made the rewarding transition into the construction industry.

The show will be supported with lesson plans that link the content to curriculum learning and will give all students the essential progression and pathway information.
