Free creative technology courses & industry engagement for your classroom
Apps for Good is an education technology charity, with a mission to grow the problem-solvers and digital makers of tomorrow. We aim to equip young people with the right digital and entrepreneurial skills to create technology for good, benefiting their communities and transforming their worlds.
We upskill educators via our online CPD to deliver our programmes (App Development courses or Internet of Things (‘IoT’ course) to their students. Students are then challenged to come up with any problem or issue they are passionate about within their communities and learn how to solve it through building a digital product. Through the Apps for Good programme students learn not just vital technical skills but furthermore the enterprise and employability skills to design, market, launch and pitch their products solving real-world problems.
The current Apps for Good course options are:
• Design an App in a Day (5 hours)
• App Development Mini Course (10-12 hours)
• App Development Full Course (30+ hours)
• Internet of Things Course (10-12 hours)
• Machine Learning Course (10-12 hours) pilot for 2018/19
Apps for Good courses can be delivered in primary schools, secondary schools and FE colleges.
Every student that takes part in an Apps for Good course has multiple opportunities to access industry engagement. This is delivered by our Expert programme, which matches schools with an industry Expert who will volunteer their time to join a classroom remotely and offer students advice and feedback on their Apps for Good idea/product.
Each year we also deliver a number of Regional Events in various locations across the UK, where we invite local schools to bring a team of students to showcase and celebrate their Apps for Good work.
Apps for Good students are also encouraged to submit their work to our annual Awards. Finalist teams are then invited to London (travel expenses covered by Apps for Good), students spend the morning visiting a London tech company and then spend the afternoon pitching to a Dragons Den style panel and network with over 100 industry guests in our MarketPlace.
