NFTS YEAR 12 COMMERICALS COMPETITION OVERVIEW
Win a hands on workshop at the world’s best film school!
Schools have the opportunity to develop video production skills vital to modern global communication – thanks to a competition run by the National Film and Television School (NFTS).
Video now accounts for over two thirds of all consumer internet traffic, according to tech giant Cisco.
Addressing this, NFTS has devised an exciting challenge for schools this autumn, with four teams selected from two rounds of competition winning a day’s filmmaking workshop.
ROUND 1 – In School competition.
In teams of no more than 5 people. Challenge details to be handed out on the day.
To do this challenge you will need to use the following skills:
- Project management and planning
- Critical thinking and problem solving
- Decision making
- Research skills
- Presentation skills (and pitching skills – think of Dragon’s Den!)
- Film making
Sessions to take place in the lead up to the October half-term but the date is flexible to fit with different school timetables.
It is recommended (not essential) that the students are given input on storyboards, social media campaigns, communicating messages to audiences in PSHEE or relevant curriculum sessions prior to the Round 1 activity. Please contact your Enterprise Adviser or look on OppsinBucks.org to see if an employer can help you with this.
Allow a day (approx.) to complete Round 1 in order that sufficient time is given for ideation, development time, story board creation, presentations and judging.
The winning team from Round 1 selected by each School will go through to Round 2.
All results from Round 1, ie the selection of the winning team, needs to be confirmed and their details entered for Round 2 of the competition via the Bucks Skills Hub by Friday 13th October 2017.
ROUND 2 – Into Production!
The winning team from Round 1 goes forward with their idea supported by their Enterprise Adviser.
The winning team will receive a young filmmakers workshop at the NFTS!
Students to be given four weeks to make their films, which will include the October half-term break. Deadline for finished films to be uploaded: Monday 13th November 2017.
The four winning teams will be announced by Friday 1st December 2017 and the workshop at the NFTS for 20 young people from the winning Schools will take place on January 3rd 2018.
