Students at The Misbourne in Great Missenden have recently been awarded the full complement of the school’s employability badges.

Careers coordinator Helen Hill explains: “Often students feel that they don’t have employability skills when asked, so we wanted to make their skills visible to themselves and others in the community.  We launched the eight skills highlighted in MySkillsBucks in Year 7, 8 and 9 assemblies.”

The skills include:

  • Teamwork
  • Self-motivation and resilience
  • Time management
  • Problem solving
  • Flexibility and multi-tasking
  • Communication skills
  • ICT skills
  • Enterprising skills.

It’s very easy for students to apply for the awards: they complete the page in their planner, get the skill signed off,

receive the badge in assembly, then wear it with pride!

Cassia in Year  9, pictured with her friends Alessia and Isabelle, says: “I have really enjoyed being able to gain these 8 badges which have proved my skills in being a good communicator, good at time managing, being able to work in a team and many more.

“I was able to work with my friends, teachers and my form tutor Miss Rowe to get these badges signed off.  Having nowgained all eight awards, it allowed me and my friends to feel more confident and happy with my own personal achievements.

“I used to be a very shy person but now, I am proud to walk around with all of my badges being worn on my school blazer. My advice to other students who are thinking about completing these badges would be to go for it and don’t be shy about other people’s opinions.

“Having completed all of these awards I am able to complete my student leadership accreditation as it shows that I am a committed and hard working girl.”
